Artist Interview: Triana
Andrea Vivanco “Triana”, born in 1982 in Mexico, is a passionate artist, painter, designer, and illustrator with a Master’s degree from the San Carlos Academy in Latin America.

As an artist, Triana has a unique background with multidisciplinary training that has benefited from her previous studies in design and advertising.

Focusing on painting, Triana seeks new inspiration and knowledge, aiming to make significant contributions to the art world. She participated in the “Art Spin” exhibition at the Solidad City Hall in Mexico and has taken part in several international virtual exhibitions.

Triana enjoys freely applying paint to capture the essence of her surroundings, reflecting the diverse beauty found in visual experiences. She loves using a palette knife, which glides across the oil paint like butter spread on toast.
Her series “The Mirror of Mexico” explores Mexican culture, from the vibrant colonial architecture to rich traditions and diverse ecosystems, plants, and animals. Through a vibrant colour palette, she shares her emotions from daily life and incorporates environmental awareness into her artistic expressions, showcasing everything that makes her proud.

Her parents always encouraged her to follow her dreams and supported her love of painting from a young age. Her father, an amateur painter, greatly influenced her, and she admired him, striving to emulate his artistic passion.
Triana’s work is deeply influenced by her life of travel. Growing up, her family moved several times, visiting countless monuments, buildings, ancient churches, and indigenous sites in different cities. She encountered Maya culture, tropical rainforests, exotic birds, insects, and a variety of beautiful animals.

She believes that humanity’s relationship with nature has reached a point of no return. Therefore, the only thing we can do is protect the remaining natural resources. However, she regrets that human “progress” is unstoppable. The best solution is to enjoy the present and do what one can to protect the surrounding environment.
In her artwork, Triana expresses her visual reflections on global warming and meteorological phenomena. The chaos brought by hurricanes, earthquakes, and gigantic waves is a fascinating theme for her paintings, deepening her understanding of nature’s grandeur and humanity’s insignificance as individuals.
